Canadian Workers & Social Cohesion
in a Global Era
Introduction
This project considers the issue of Canadian workers and social cohesion in
a global era. The research is designed to discover how workers are coping
with increasing competition and what effects it is having upon social cohesion.
It will investigate workers perceptions of their problems and the actions
that they have taken to address them. The formal and informal institutions
(e.g. worker groups, unions, families, community organizations and other civil
society groups) used by workers will be subject to investigation. The role
of state and interstate (ILO, WTO) regulatory agencies integral to monitoring
and regulating competition will also be studied. Research results will be
distributed to civil society, academic and state officials to inform their
strategies and policy choices.
